Democrats are outnumbered in the Senate, and all they have left is a last-ditch campaign to block President Trump's pick for the U.S. Supreme Court.
It’s a long shot, but we have no choice. We must force Congress not to confirm Trump’s choice for the Supreme Court. The Resistance is prepared to fight Prominent activist groups including Demand Justice, Indivisible, MoveOn and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee are already planning a week of protests at home-state offices of senators across the country after Trump announces his nominee. Unfortunately, the groups are following the same grass-roots strategy that has failed to kill all the disastrous legislation Trump Republicans have passed so far. Planned Parenthood has held events across the country to attract local news coverage. And Resistance groups are flooding the airwaves with ads, urging Americans to call their senators, hoping the outpouring will jam phone lines on Capitol Hill and sway senators even though jamming the phones of a politician has no real impact. "It is game time; this is not a drill," says an ad from NARAL, an abortion-rights nonprofit. Demand Justice plans to spend $5 million in states with senators who might flip, with radio, television and online ads opposing Trump's nominee. The group was recently formed as a counterweight to Judicial Crisis Network, a right-leaning group whose advocacy helped block President Barack Obama's nominee from being considered in 2016 and supported Gorsuch's nomination in 2017. The conservative group has also pledged to spend at least a million dollars for ads encouraging people not to believe Democrats on Kennedy's replacement. The protests seem to be more about convincing liberal activists that Democrats are putting up a solid effort, rather than actually stopping Congress from confirming a Trump extremist. The challenge is to convince the Republican controlled Congress that it’s their best interest not to confirm any Trump Supreme Court nominee. The question is how? This is a nonsense. Mr. Trump with his racist attacks on minorities has already started a civil war in America. America is a deeply divided. Democrats and Republicans do not live in the same neighborhoods or communities. Nor do Democrats and Republicans communicate with each other in meaningful and personal ways. Liberals and conservatives have little overlap in their fundamental beliefs about the common good and what it means to live in a just and democratic society. Even the ability to find common ground on the basic nature of empirical reality and the facts seems impossible across divides of party and political belief. Donald Trump did not create these deep fissures in American society. He put dynamite in hole, lit the fuse, walked away, and laughed at the destruction and chaos which resulted — destruction which he would use to advance their goals. Prominent voices on both the left and the right — often motivated by very different concerns — have begun to publicly sound the alarm about the growing possibility of a second civil war in the United States. Trump has declared war on those who hold him tin contempt. Mr. Trump is under investigation in the Trump-Russian probe, and he’s trapped. He has to discredit FBI and fire the special counsel appointed to investigate him. He has to end the Trump-Russia investigation… or face impeachment, indictment, conviction, and imprisonment. The special counsel’s investigation is closing in. Is Trump desperate enough to call out his base to start a real war in the streets of America? Trump was asked a question about bringing the country together. Instead of saying anything to bringing the country together after tearing the county apart, this is what Trump said: “I think some of the things that are said (about him and his cult following of racists) are terrible. And you know, it’s our people are so incredible — do you know, there’s probably never been a base in the history of politics in this country like my base. I hope the other side realizes that they better just take it easy. They better just take it easy because some of the language used, some of the words used, even some of the radical ideas I really think they are very bad for the country. I think they are actually very dangerous for the country.” Trump’s natural impulse, when confronted with protest and dissent, is to threaten to crush it with violence. Trump is trying to intimidate people who oppose him into silence by warning them that his “loyal followers”, his racists, Neo Nazi thugs, his social media trolls, his Make America Great Movement will attack and “shut up” the opposition… if they aren’t careful. Here is Trump’s latest attack on Maxine Waters: Congresswoman Maxine Waters, an extraordinarily low IQ person, has become, together with Nancy Pelosi, the Face of the Democrat Party. She has just called for harm to supporters, of which there are many, of the Make America Great Again movement. Be careful what you wish for Max! Trump is inciting violence among his an audience of supporters. After receiving specific threats of harm — including references to lynching — Waters canceled several public appearances. Trump has polarized the nation with his Make America Great Movement to gain political power. Trump has given us a new nation as deeply divided as it was before the civil war. Trump is using race and White Nationalism to seed a revolution, a second civil war to overthrow the government from within in his rise to power. Trump knows what’s coming with the Mueller investigation, and his only play is to incite his followers – a significant part of this country- to stand up and repeat the investigation is a “witch hunt” and take to the streets to defend Trump. Trump is calling for a real revolution to overthrow the government, and we are in the winds war moving towards violent clashes in the streets. Dictatorship or Democracy? And it’s a pure hit job” (link). Trump just literally declared that “people will die” if his Trump-Russia scandal continues to be investigated. Will Trump unleash his Neo Nazis goons the way Hitler used his army of brown shirt Nazis to terrorize not just the Jews but anyone who stood in his way. Is Trumps public policy aimed at harming people who he treats as enemies? Trump is letting people die in Puerto Rico with a calculated, delayed inadequate response to the catastrophic hurricane damage. What if Mr. Trump conspired with the Russians to rig the election? What if Trump is not the legitimate President of the United States? Wouldn’t that make every executive order, every appointment, and every law he signs null and void? Trump’s tax cut for billionaires is just an unsigned piece of legislation, and Neil Gorsuch is not a Supreme Court Justice. What if Trump is remembered in history as the first American President to collaborate with a foreign government to steal the election? What if Trump not only cheated to win, but he committed treason doing it? Wouldn’t that make the Commander and Chief our first traitor in the White House? The special counsel Robert Muller III is investigating Trump’s business dealings and ties to Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin. It’s an investigation not a “Witch Hunt”. The evidence coming out on a daily basis is shocking; but, apparently just the tip of the iceberg. There have been 20 indictments so far. Of course, we won’t know definitively until Mueller gives his report to Congress and files charges in court against Trump, his family members and underlings… assuming the President does not fire the special counsel first and stop the investigation. Congress has become the enemy of the people. Trump Republicans who control Congress are as corrupt and traitorous as Trump. They’re doing everything they can to give the president an excuse to fire Mueller and end the investigation. They are a part of the cover up. Trump supporters are getting desperate. Now they argue that Trump is “too incompetent to have colluded with Russia”. The truth is, Trump could never have won without the Russians manipulating the election process. Trump supporters don’t care if Trump colluded with the Russians to rig the election. They don’t care if Putin has “kompromat” on Trump and Trump is a Russian asset in the White House. They don’t care if Trump is a traitor. Republicans want to stay in power at any cost. They will tolerate anything from President Trump, not just his incessant lying, immoral conduct, criminal dealings, and disastrous public policy, his ruthless authoritarian regime… but treason. They support Trump no matter what damage he does to our economy and to our Democracy because they are determined to stay in control of our government. The Republicans in Congress are working to sabotage the Mueller investigation, and they must be stopped. Perhaps the most damning evidence is Trump’s failure to impose sanctions against the Russians for attacking our election process. The Russian cyber-attack is tantamount to an act of war, and Trump has done nothing to punish Russia or prevent it from happening the upcoming mid-term elections. Trump just can’t say enough nice things about Putin. Trump failed to impose the sanctions against Russia that Congress imposed, and Trump has supported Putin against our allies in Europe. Part of Trump’s defense strategy is to blame the Democrats, discredit the investigation calling it a “witch hunt”, attack the FBI and deputy director Rob Rosenstein who appointed the special counsel and would need to be removed for Trump to shut down the special counsel’s Trump-Russia investigation. Alex Baldwin who mock’s Trump on Saturday Night Live is speaking up to let Americans know what’s on the line. “Trump is claiming he has ‘absolute’ power to pardon himself and his aides,” Baldwin said, referring to a tweet from Trump in June claiming he had the authority to pardon himself if needed. As has been stated by numerous legal scholars, I have the absolute right to PARDON myself, but why would I do that when I have done nothing wrong? In the meantime, the never ending Witch Hunt, led by 13 very Angry and Conflicted Democrats (& others) continues into the mid-terms! “Can you imagine any other president saying this? No, because this would be the action of a dictator or a king — not the president of the United States.” What if President Trump stacks the Supreme Court to control the Russian probe? Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy is retiring, and Trump is considering appointing Brett M. Kavanaugh, a highly partisan Republican who holds an extremist view of presidential power, Kavanaugh has argued that the president should not be distracted by civil lawsuits, criminal investigations or even questions from attorneys while in office. Trump wants another justice on the Supreme Court that will let him get away with treason. We can’t let it happen. We must not allow Republicans in control of Congress to confirm a Supreme Court Justice who would support the Trump dictatorship. We must not allow Trump to fire special counsel and kill the investigation. That is the red line, we must be prepared to defend. We must protect and defend the Mueller investigation at all costs.
