Claudia Patricia Gómez Gonzáles was shot and killed by U.S. Border Patrol on Wednesday near Laredo, Texas. The 19-year-old child was coming to the U.S. from Guatemala in hopes of securing work to pay for her education. Claudia was shot in the head when a Border Patrol agent fired on a group of people he believed to be undocumented immigrants in Rio Bravo, Texas. Customs and Border Protection released a statement on Wednesday saying a lone Border Patrol agent was responding to a report of illegal activity near a culvert in Rio Bravo, Texas, when he “came under attack by multiple subjects using blunt objects.” The revised report claims the agent ordered the group of immigrants to “get on the ground,” but they ignored his commands and “instead rushed him”…(without blunt objects). When the President lies incessantly, people in government feel then can do the same. The family of a 19-year-old Guatemalan woman killed by a U.S. border patrol officer called on Friday for the United States to dial-back its rhetoric on migrants, after President Donald Trump described gang members entering the country as “animals.” Claudia was not a rapist, a gang member, or drug dealer as far as we know. She was not an animal, she was a human being, a young and beautiful person. The Parkland High School Shooting In the aftermath of the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14 that left 17 dead, Parkland students led by David Hogg and Emma Gonzalez took center stage as they launched the protest for gun control nationwide and they took on the NRA. They started with a simple boycott of First National Bank of Omaha. Congress refuses to pass common-sense gun control… why? The National Rifle Association bribes members of Congress with obscene campaign contributions to not pass gun laws. Our system of government is commonly called a “Representatives Democracy” which is not really a Democracy. Why? Because our representatives take unlimited bribes from special interests such as the NRA. Representatives do not represent the America People or the Common Good as much as they represent best the special interests that contribute most. So the question becomes how? How do Parkland Students and decent Americans who believe in Democracy, force the members of Congress to pass common-sense gun laws when they are talking obscene amounts of money from the NRA? Therein lies the rub. Parkland Students have surprised everyone… especially the NRA. They have employed some new approaches to petitioning Congress for the redress of grievances and undermine the NRA’s control over Congress. The Parkland students launched a Phone Boycott of First National Bank of Omaha, the nation’s largest privately held bank. The student boycott of First National Bank of Omaha succeeded before it made headlines In an unusual and unprecedented act of protest, Parkland Students targeted First National Bank of Omaha. They didn’t boycott old school by refusing to bank there. Instead, they took to their smartphones calling First Nation Bank to demand the bank stop sponsoring NRA credit cards. They occupied the phones. They began blockading the bank’s communications, which threatened to disrupt business and start a run on the bank. The Parkland Student Phone Boycott. Students and their supporters began making phone calls to the bank until the calls began to disrupt business as usual. The Phone Boycott was over in under ten days with only about 4,000 calls a day coming into the bank. The First National Bank surrendered before the Phone Boycott had a chance to go viral. As a result, First National Bank of Omaha will not renew its contract with the National Rifle Association to issue the NRA Visa Card. 12:22 PM - Feb 22, 2018 “Customer feedback” threatened to overload their phones, cut off their communications and disrupt their business. The high and mighty First National Bank, the largest privately held bank in America, saw the hand writing on the wall, and they capitulated. Apparently, the bank realized that by the time they got to court, the bank could be bankrupt, and no jury in the world is going find consumers guilty of calling a business to complain… especially when they are consumers and it’s their right to call that’s on trial. What jury is going to want the police violating the sacrosanct rights of all consumers (themselves included) to call a business open to the public for whatever reason they damn well feel like whenever they damn well want to? How can you compare the right of one business to make money as opposed to the rights of 7.6 billion consumers to call and complain? Arrest one protester and have 7 billion angry people with phones left to call… with a vengeance. Apparently, the bank saw the potential danger in telling 7.6 billion people in the world with mobile phones, “Don’t call our bank… or we’ll have you all arrested.” A large percentage of those 7.6 billion consumers are highly likely to take the threat to violate their rights to use their phones personally and call and tell the bank to “Go to hell!” The number of people calling First Nation could be astronomical. Parkland students boycotting by phone schooled First National Bank. In under ten day, they show the bank what can happens when their phones are occupied with protesters and the bank can’t answer the phones fast enough to clear the lines and keep their business operational. This is an overwhelming victory for the Parkland Students, for the Resistance, for social activists and freedom fighters everywhere that will live in history. The Koch Brothers take home an extra $1,000,000,000 to 1,400,000,000 a year after donating $20 million to members of Congress to convince them to vote for the tax cut. The Koch brothers gave Speaker Paul Ryan a $500,000 donation as a tip for his services. Six of the largest banks, including Bank of America and Wells Fargo, together received a $3.6 billion-dollar tax cut for the first quarter of this year. A middle-class school secretary has an extra $1.50 a week in her pay check that will pay for her Costco membership. The Koch brothers each have an extra $500,000,000 a year to spend at Costco. This is how Trump’s making America great again for the richest 1% at the expense of the rest of American taxpayers. So the GOP controlled Congress is doing something to make the extremely rich obscenely rich. The Trump Republicans are just not doing anything about gun control. Protesters called to tell the bank they were boycotting the bank… or how else would the bank know it was being boycotted? When enough people began to call, it started to tie up the phones and disrupt business and cost the bank money, which is a very convincing argument for the bank to drop the NRA. The students turned their smartphones into virtual-reality-assault weapons. The bank had a pivotal moment. They saw the light. They got religion. Arresting a few callers would not intimidate millions of consumers or stop them from calling to defend their right to call and tell the bank to go to hell. Arresting protesters for calling the bank to complain would be as counterproductive as stepping on a land mine. Arresting phone protesters for calling a business open to the public, assuming you can identify thousands of them coming on line daily, is not a deterrent. One arrest would make the news, which would go viral, and public outcry could bring not thousands but millions of consumers to the phones calling not just to boycott Bank of America but to defend their right to call and complain. First National Bank wisely chose to settle quickly and quietly before the Phone Boycott went viral and the disruption to their communication systems caused significant financial losses. They got out before investors began to panic and the bank’s stock dropped in value and worried depositors started a run on the bank. Conroy prayed for the souls of the members of Congress who worked behind closed doors on the GOP Tax Cut.
In his prayer, he reminded members of Congress that God is God of the universe…which implies that they are not there in Washington to play god. There was just a hint of a suggestion that politicians are elected to serve the People… not just the Rich People who make large contributions. As legislation on taxes continues to be debated this week and next, may all Members be mindful that the institutions and structures of our great Nation guarantee the opportunities that have allowed some to achieve great success, while others continue to struggle. Lawrence O’Donnell called out the Trump Tax Cut for what it is. “You are seeing in the United States Senate on the Republican side of the aisle, with this tax legislation, is the ugliest display of pigs at the trough that I have ever seen in Congress, and I mean EVER.” The GOP Congress is distributing the wealth of the nation to the wealthiest 1% in exchange for campaign contributions. The Republican controlled Congress passed this tax cut for the rich with malicious intent to rob the American people and turn the rich into welfare queens. The wealthiest people in America just bought the United States government and gave themselves lion’s share of the wealth of the nation. The winners in the tax cut are the billionaires and their mega-rich corporations. Six big banks saved $3,590,000 billion in taxes in the first quarter of 2018 according to the Associated Press. Small to mid-sized businesses deserve a tax break, but why on earth give six big banks $17.4 billion dollars a year? We need to tax the mega-rich corporations to pay for tax cuts for small to mid-sized businesses that employee people. The losers are 80 % of the America people who do the work and pay the taxes for the rich who don’t pay their share of taxes. This egregious tax cut is an act of class warfare. It’s nothing but the exploitation of the People by the rich on massive scale. CEOs in particular have good reason to be cheerful about the tax bill. According to the non-partisan Tax Policy Center, the majority of the benefits will go those making more than $300,000 a year, with 80 percent of the benefits going towards the top 1 percent of earners. Meanwhile, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities has found that many middle and lower-income households will end up worse-off after the tax bill, while benefiting those with higher incomes. The bill is also expected to add more than $1.46 trillion to the deficit. Millions of hard working Americans who don’t get pay increases, better jobs, and end up facing an uncertain economy with the national deficit of $21 trillion dollars (and rising daily) are paying taxes that the rich should be paying. This outrageous giveaway to the rich at the top pushes more and more of the middle class down deeper and deeper into debt and poverty. How does the Trump tax cut work? The Koch Brothers save over a billion dollars a year in taxes, thanks to the tax bill passed by Republican members of Congress taking huge campaign contribution from the Koch Brothers. A school secretary saves $78.00 a year in taxes to pay her Costco membership while the Koch brothers each have an extra $500,000,000.00 a year to spend at Costco. See the difference? The Trump Tax Cut for Billionaires is insane. The obscenely rich and their mega-rich corporations at the top should be taxed to pay for tax cuts for small to medium sized business, for the middle class, and for increased social benefits for people at the bottom. That’s how the progressive tax system is supposed to work. That is economic justice for all Americans. The White House promised the American people that corporate cuts would increase wages for the average American worker by $4,000, a claim made by White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kevin Hassett, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers. Tax cuts should go medium and small businesses that actually create the majority of jobs in America. The Trump Republicans call this a “middle class tax break” to sell this monstrosity to the American people as a “job creator”. Mega-rich corporations are, for the most part, using the windfall to buy up their stock and automate to eliminate jobs…they are not passing out $4,000 dollar pay raises. A damning indictment The conservative Koch political network, which rivals the two major political parties in size and funding, spent tens of millions of dollars pressuring lawmakers to pass the tax cuts in 2017. “That’s not a bad return on investment: what’s $20 million when you’re looking at a billion or more in tax breaks?” The rich have purchased our elected representatives with bribes, and they now own our government out right. This tax breaks for rich don’t apply to ordinary people. In fact, in order to pay for these obscene tax exemptions for the rich, cuts must be made in Social Security, Medicare and other entitlement programs for the elderly and the poor. The United States had a progressive tax system in which the tax rate was meant to increase as a person’s taxable income increases. In theory, the more money people make the more they pay in taxes. Progressive taxes are imposed in an attempt to reduce taxes for people with lower incomes and shift the tax burden to those with a higher ability-to-pay. Those who make more pay more. That is social justice. That is the American way. The opposite of a progressive tax is a regressive tax, where the relative tax rate decreases as an individual's ability to pay increases. Those who make a great deal more pay a great deal less in taxes. The richer the rich get the less they pay in taxes and the poorer the nation as a whole becomes. The Trump Tax cut has jammed the nation’s tax system into reverse We’ve gone from a progressive to a regressive tax system giving the rich, and their super rich corporations enormous reductions in taxes with meager tax breaks for people with moderate incomes and increased taxes on the poor. Millions of ordinary tax payers might save $1,000 - $3,000 a year while the two Koch Brothers save between $1 to $ 1.4 billion dollars a year. But why do millions of people who deserve a modest tax cut, have to pay the Koch Brother a trillion dollars to get a modest tax cut? Would it not be far better to tax the Koch Brothers and the billionaires and the mega-rich corporations to pay for the tax break for the rest of America? Massive tax breaks for the rich make the rich richer and the rest of America that much poorer. This trillion-dollar tax break mostly for the rich adds $1.5 trillion dollars to the national deficit, which is already dangerously high, threatens the stability of our economy. The growing national debt is not the road to economic recovery, the deficit is over $20 trillion dollars and climbing. The deficit is not to leading down the road to prosperity and economic stability for all Americans but to the Second Great Depression, with more poverty and squalor that the First Great Depression. The GOP Tax Cut is nothing but a scam and it’s evil. Nonpartisan tax experts concluded that the bill, which lowers income taxes, corporate taxes and offers numerous special-interest tax breaks, offers the majority of the gains to America’s wealthiest individuals. The top 1 percent of Americans will get 83 percent of the tax benefits in 2027. Less than two weeks after the U.S. House passed its version of the bill, Charles Koch and his wife Elizabeth donated nearly $500,000 to the joint fundraising committee of Speaker Paul Ryan, who successfully guided the bill through his chamber. Speak Ryan sold out the American people for half a million-dollar bribe. Speaker Ryan has $500,000.00 to spend at Costco… and a school secretary has $78.00 to pay for her membership at Costco. The good news is members of Congress told Speak Ryan to repent and bring Rev. Patrick back. The really good news is there’s something we can do to kill this godawful tax cut for the rich at the expense of the middle class and the poor. The question is how to force Congress to tax the hell out of the rich and their mega-rich corporations to pay a decent tax cut for the rest of America. Raising Holy Hell on Capitol Hill Wells Fargo, created some 3.5 million fake accounts, gave its CEO a whopping raise, and paid a $1 billion fine for bilking its customers on auto and mortgage insurance contracts. Instead of the CEO and the board of directors of Well Fargo going to prison, Wells Fargo is one the six big banks sharing the $3,590,000 billion tax cut for the first quarter of this year. Trump has made America Great… for thieving billionaires and their mega-rich, predatory, crime syndicate corporations like himself. Boycott Wells Fargo by phone. Call and ask Wells Fargo to ask Congress to reverse the tax cut for the rich and impeach Trump while they’re at it… or Congress can lose Well Fargo and face an economic meltdown on Wall Street. A million protesters calling Well Fargo day and night and protesting out in front will make the news and go viral. It will attract more than enough callers tie up the phones with complaints about Well Fargo’s anti-social, criminal behavior and put their business on hold until stock holders panic and crash their stock and depositors who are worried about their money set off a run on Wells Fargo. The mountain of evidence in the Mueller investigation continues to grow, and now a prominent MSNBC host has finally said what people suspect. The MSNBC host Joy Reid appeared on Chris Hayes show as a panelist and the discussion focused on the clear evidence that Trump’s campaign did collude with Russia during the election to help Trump win. Trump’s former adviser George Papadopoulos has already confessed that he told several Trump officials about his plans to conspire with the Kremlin and he’s asserted that Trump himself knew about it. Joy Reid’s response was, “What if Russia actually did impact the outcome? That means that the fundamental legitimacy of the President of the United States is questionable. Every decision he makes, every judge he appoints, could be inherently illegitimate. And I think that’s actually a fundamental question Americans should be afraid of. Psychologically, it’s very difficult to be told that perhaps your vote was somehow influenced by outsiders, that there was something wrong with the candidate you voted for.” This is the first mainstream media outlet to publicly acknowledge a serious concern of millions of Americans. What would this unprecedented situation even look like? The Presidency not being legitimate would be the ultimate undoing of American democracy. Donald Trump will not be the undoing of Democracy.
